Meet the Showcase Staff

    MATT HYDE

    Matt is New York Yankees Northeast Regional Scouting Director. Matt started scouting with the Yankees in 2005. Recent draft picks to make their MLB debut include Anthony Volpe and Ben Rice. Matt is also the manager of the Yankees Area Code Games team.

    RAY FAGNANT

    Ray is the Northeast Regional Scouting Supervisor for the Boston Red Sox. Fagnant started his scouting career in 1993 after retiring from Professional Baseball. Ray coaches the Yankees Area Code team along with Matt Hyde and Jim Bretz.

    JIM BRETZ

    Jim is Northeast Area Scouting Director for the Detroit Tigers since 2015. Prior to Detroit, Jim held the same position with the San Diego Padres for 15 years. He has previously held Head Coaching Positions and UNC Asheville (1991-1994) and Hartford University (1995-1997). Jim also coaches the Area Code Games with Matt Hyde and Ray Fagnant.

    STEVE LOMASNEY

    Steve is a former 5th-round pick for the Boston Red Sox and former MLB catcher. He founded Show New England, a travel baseball program that has placed over 150 college players and produced 10 MLB draft picks since 2012. His 15+ years of showcase coaching and strong connections with college coaches and pro scouts inspired the creation of the Transfer Portal Showcase.

    BRANDON BINGEL

    Brandon is a former 22nd round Draft Pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates and current Pitching Coach at NCAA Division 2 Bentley University. Brandon has helped Steve Lomasney run his travel program, Show New England, for the past 5 years bringing both showcase and college coaching experience to help create the Transfer Portal Showcase.

This is your chance to participate in a pro-style workout led by MLB scouts and compete in a high-energy, on-field game in front of 30+ college coaches and professional scouts to help you take the next step in your baseball journey.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE SHOWCASE

    BEFORE

    Players will create an academic profile before the showcase, ensuring their information is instantly accessible to college coaches during the event. This means your achievements and academic strengths are front and center, giving you the best chance to stand out and get noticed.

    DURING

    Players will receive a comprehensive data profile that includes detailed metrics, Trackman data, and performance insights from the baseball showcase workout.

    College Coaches and Scouts will have direct access to these profiles post-showcase and the Trackman data in real time.

    Recruiting video clips of the workout and game at-bats will also be included in the player profile.

    AFTER

    The performance metrics collected from the showcase won’t just sit on a shelf—the data will be right at the fingertips of our scouts and college coaches, serving as a valuable resource in their search for top talent. This data will also remain available to players post-showcase to use in their own recruitment.

Showcase

  • All registered position players will check-in at the New England Baseball Complex (333 SW Cutoff, Northborough, MA 01532)

  • During this time, position players will participate in a pro-style workout led by MLB scouts. Data with be collected during the workout, such as 60-yard dash, infield and outfield velocities, batting practice, and more.

  • All registered pitchers will check-in at the New England Baseball Complex(333 SW Cutoff, Northborough, MA 01532)

  • Multiple 9-inning games will be played across the complex’s 3 fields. Players will be informed of their field assignment so they can easily update coaches. Coaches at the event will have complete rosters for all fields.
